Cutting the cord to the gas station with a home EV charger
Inflation and gas prices are making us rethink our driving habits. Today’s inflationary pressures are top of mind for everyone, households and businesses alike. Record-breaking gas prices in recent years have made many rethink their vehicle usage. Interest in EVs has skyrocketed, with surging waitlists for new electric vehicles coming onto the market. According to Plug’ N Drive, EVs are a quarter of the cost to drive, and a typical EV driver will save $1,500-2,000 per year on fuel costs alone.
A new kind of company to help you navigate the switch to EVs
We are thrilled to announce the launch of Kizuna, a company that can help you find the right EV charging solution for your home or business. We can make the transition as seamless and easy as possible. Switching makes economic sense, and we can help you do that.
Home EV chargers for the win: 80% of charging happens at home
While most of the media discussion is about publicly available charging stations, governments should be looking to incentivize level 2 or fast chargers at home. Did you know that research shows that over 80 percent of all EV charging happens at the home of a personal EV buyer? There’s no need to access public chargers for that quick trip to the grocery store or your daily commute to work. Those pesky weekly fill-ups at the gas station are no longer necessary.
Billions of dollars of EV investments across Canada
Government investment has also accelerated, with countries like Canada and the United States leading the way. In 2021, Trudeau announced that 100 percent of all car and passenger trucks sold in Canada would be electric by 2035. In May of2022, the federal and Ontario governments announced $ 1 billion in funding to Stellantis to refit two of its plants. All told, the Ontario government has now committed nearly $ 16 billion in automotive sector investments toward producing and supplying electric vehicles. Premier Ford is also signalling further investments in partnerships, announcing he wants 400,000EVs built in Ontario by 2030.
Expect more government incentives
Market share of battery-electric vehicles has skyrocketed in recent years, with StatsCan reporting that a record 7.7 percent of all new registrations are zero-emission vehicles, spurned on by government incentive programs like the federal iZEV program and BC’s ZEV passenger vehicle rebates. Watch as more incentive programs like iZEV are announced at the municipal and provincial levels to drive EV adoption. Governments are going to continue throwing around the dough.
Getting an expert to install your EV charger just makes economic sense.
You can drive home today with an EV, but beware that charging times are pretty slow on a Level 1 or 120-volt household outlet. It often requires up to 40-50 hours to charge a battery from empty. Yikes! You will need a Level-2 charger at home, which can charge your vehicle in as little as four hours from empty and easily charge it overnight while you are sleeping.
Save money charging your EV during off-peak electricity hours
The other significant benefit is our Level 2 chargers use smart metering to take advantage of ultra-low overnight electricity rates. Don’t worry about plugging in your car before you go to bed. Rest easy and plug your car in as soon as you park. Our smart chargers will only start once your ultra-low rates kick in, leaving you with a full battery charge when you need to get out of the house in the morning.
Beware – Not all chargers or electricians are created equal!
Be careful, though! In many areas, time of use electrical charging premiums can drive up your costs. You should get an expert to help you select and install a charger most appropriate for your property and vehicle type. There’s a wide range in both price and quality. At Kizuna, we can help you source the best EV charger, and we can consider your future needs to scale your charging needs over time.
